Overview
This one day program is for health professionals wanting to gain an increased understanding of and skills in the ward and emergency management of non invasive ventilation in acute respiratory conditions.
Outline
The course includes a large practical component. Topics covered include:
- Overview of non invasive ventilation
- Acute hypercapnic respiratory failure - aetiology and pathophysiology
- Understanding oximetry
- Oxygen delivery systems and humidification systems
- Tracheostomy management
- Monitoring and follow-up of patient with acute respiratory failure
- Role of NIV - practical aspects, pitfalls, why it may fail, type of machines available
- Hands on experience with commonly used machines, masks
Facilitators
The course has been developed with and is conducted by a range of experts from the Sleep and Ventilatory Services of the AIRMed Department at The Alfred. They include doctors, nurses, scientists and physiotherapists.
